As a lead up to this years conference a full day workshop covering the topic of winery wastewater treatment took place on the Tuesday prior to the conference, this event consisted of visits to a number of wineries to look at various methods of wastewater treatment and finished up at a municipal treatment plant that supplies recycled water to McLaren Vale vineyards.

This workshop proved extremely popular with 28 people being in attendance.

JJC Engineering personnel John Constable and Mike Carson were actively involved in this event and were on hand to provide valuable technical advice to participants which was greatly appreciated by all and the WEA would in turn like to thank John and Mike for their companies support. Given the success of this event we are already looking at arranging a similar structured workshop on another topic on the day prior to the 2014 WEA conference.

The second days tasting was conducted by Rosemount’s winemaker Andrew Locke during which he presented both varietal and low alcohol wines produced by TWE’s Rosemount McLaren Vale winery.
Both tastings attracted a lot of interest and for many were a great introduction to alternative wine varieties.

Travhotec-Trade-DisplayThis year’s exhibition was made up of in excess of 24 exhibitors all of which were well set up and professionally presented, as always the exhibition generated a lot of interest and allowed delegates to find out about new products and services being offered plus the opportunity to renew acquaintances and network amongst their peers.

As always the traditional conference dinner was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance and was a great opportunity to continue networking with colleagues, presenters and industry suppliers, a feature for which the annual WEA conference and exhibition has become renowned for. The associated raffle in aid of the Royal Flying Doctor Service was well supported both in the way of the donation of prizes from industry suppliers and the purchase of tickets by attendee’s, in turn we are pleased to be able to announce that this years raffle raised a total of $3,902 every cent of which will be presented to the Sunraysia Auxiliary of the RFDS.

This donation will bring the total raised by the WEA since 2003 and donated to the RFDS to $40,146.70

In regards to the venue for this years conference the WEA was extremely pleased with the facilities and the way in which all facets of the conference and exhibition were accommodated, the Serafino staff were also extremely helpful and accommodating, we have had a good deal of positive feedback regarding the venue from both delegates and exhibitors and we therefore look forward to returning to this venue for future events.
